Rimando finishes second in MLS Goalkeeper of the Year voting

Nick Rimando v. Portland Timbers - 11.24.13

SANDY, Utah - Major League Soccer announced its 2013 Goalkeeper of the Year results on Monday morning, with RSL 'keeper Nick Rimando finishing second behind Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.

The results weren't much of a surprise, as Ricketts beat out Rimando for a spot in the MLS Best XI announced on Tuesday. Rimando had one of the best years of his 14-year career in 2013, finishing at or near the top of the league in every major goalkeeping statistical category.

Goalkeeper of the Year was voted on by media, MLS players and MLS club management based on regular season performance. Rimando won the media vote and finished second to Ricketts in the club and player votes.

Rimando and his Real Salt Lake teammates will attempt to win the most important trophy of the 2013 MLS season on Saturday, when they'll take on Sporting Kansas City in MLS Cup 2013 at Sporting Park. Saturday's MLS Cup will kick at 2:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN and UniMas and locally on ESPN 700 AM.
