Alvarez suspended three games by MLS Disciplinary Committee

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake MF Yordany Alvarez was suspended three games on Friday by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for a reckless challenge on New York Red Bulls MF Tim Cahill in the fourth minute of RSL’s 4-3 loss at New York last Saturday.


Alvarez will begin serving his suspension on Saturday, when RSL will take on the rival Colorado Rapids at a6:30 p.m. MT on ABC 4 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Cuban holding midfielder will also be suspended for RSL’s Aug. 10 home match against the Houston Dynamo and the Claret-and-Cobalt’s Aug. 17 game at the LA Galaxy.


Alvarez is one of three RSL players suspended for Saturday’s game at Colorado, with RSL DF’s Tony Beltran and Chris Wingert also unavailable for the game. Beltran and Wingert will both be available for next Saturday’s contest against Houston.


Alvarez, Beltran and Wingert will all be available for selection in Wednesday’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinal between Real Salt Lake and the Portland Timbers.
