Beckerman, Beltran & Rimando advance in Gold Cup; Saborio ousted

Kyle Beckerman USA v. El Salvador

SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake's four international players were in action on Sunday, with Kyle Beckerman, Tony Beltran, Nick Rimando and the U.S. winning its CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarterfinal against El Salvador 5-1 and Alvaro Saborio and Costa Rica losing its Gold Cup Quarter 1-0 to Honduras.

Beckerman and Rimando went 90 minutes for the U.S. in its easy win over El Salvador in Baltimore. Both played solid games, but Beckerman was particularly strong, picking up an assist on the U.S.'s final goal and earning praise from teammates and the Salvadoran coach for his solid play. Beltran did not come off the bench for the U.S., which will return to action on Wednesday, when it will take on Honduras in the Gold Cup Semifinals in Dallas.

Unfortunately, it wasn't all good news for RSL's internationals as Saborio and Costa Rica were bounced out of the tournament by virtue of a 1-0 loss to Honduras. Saborio went the full 90 for Los Ticos, nearly scoring on several occasions in the defeat. Saborio will now return to RSL, likely training with the team on Tuesday or Wednesday ahead of Saturday's game at the New York Red Bulls.
