Luis Gil Goal of the Week

Real Salt Lake midfielder Luis Gil has won MLS Goal of the Week!

Gil won the weekly honor for his opener early in the second half of RSL's 2-0 home win over Vancouver last Saturday. The play began with a brilliant Nick Rimando goal kick to forward Joao Plata, who curled a beautiful ball in from the right side that Gil bravely ran onto and headed off of the right post and in.

Gil's headed finish was his second goal of the season, tying a career high after just 11 games. The 19-year-old midfielder beat out Montreal's Justin Mapp, Houston's Andrew Driver, Philadelphia's Danny Cruz and Kansas City's C.J. Sapong to take home the hardware. This is the second time that a RSL player has won MLS Goal of the Week after Javier Morales took home the honors for his Week 8 goal against Chivas USA.

RSL's next match is on Saturday, when the Claret-and-Cobalt will continue its three-game road trip against the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo. Kick is at 12:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CW30, ESPN700 and 102.3 La Gran D FM/1600 AM.
