International Roundup: Saborio goes 90, US trio makes bench

Beltran USA v. Mexico - 03.26.13

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake’s internationals had a successful Tuesday night, with forward Alvaro Saborio playing 90 minutes and registering an assist in Costa Rica’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Jamaica and captain Kyle Beckerman, defender Tony Beltran and goalkeeper Nick Rimando making the bench for the U.S.’s scoreless WCQ draw at Mexico.

Saborio assisted on Costa Rica’s first goal, bringing down a set piece and playing a deflected pass to Michael Umaña, who smashed a shot past Jamaica goalie Donovan Ricketts. Saborio nearly had a goal of his own in the 77th minute, putting a Joel Campbell square ball wide from inside the box.

Beckerman, Beltran and Rimando all made the bench for the U.S.’s scoreless World Cup qualifier against Mexico at Estadio Azteca. The result gave the U.S. just its second ever World Cup qualifying point at Mexico.

Costa Rica and the U.S. now both have four points through three CONCACAF Hexagonal games. Los Ticos are in second-place in the group, ahead of the third-place U.S. on goal difference. Click here for full CONCACAF Hexagonal standings

Beckerman, Beltran, Rimando and Saborio will all travel back to Salt Lake City on Wednesday. The quartet will be available for RSL’s home match against Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday.
