Three Real Salt Lake players feature in World Cup qualifiers

Beckerman, Beltran, Mansally, Rimando, Saborio called up - 03.18.13

SANDY, Utah - Three Real Salt Lake players played for their national teams in World Cup qualifying matches this weekend. 


Forward Alvaro Saborio (Costa Rica), defender Abdoulie Mansally (Gambia) and captain Kyle Beckerman (U.S.) all featured for their respective national sides, while defender Tony Beltran (U.S.) and goalkeeper Nick Rimando (U.S.) made their country's gameday roster but did not play. 


Saborio started and played all 90 minutes in Costa Rica's 1-0 loss at the U.S. in snowy Denver; Mansally started and played 80 minutes - first as a midfielder, then at forward - in Gambia's 3-0 loss at Ivory Coast; Beckerman came on in second half stoppage time for the Stars-and-Strips in its win over Costa Rica.


The U.S. and Costa Rica will both play CONCACAF Hexagonal matches on Tuesday, with the U.S. taking on Mexico at Estadio Azteca and Costa Rica hosting Jamaica in San Jose. Beltran, Beckerman, Rimando and Saborio will all return to RSL following Tuesday's action. 


Gambia does not have a second World Cup qualifier this FIFA date. Mansally will return to RSL early this week.  


The Claret-and-Cobalt will take on FC Dallas on the road at 6:30 p.m. MT on Saturday night. The match will be broadcast live on ABC4, ESPN700 AM and 102.3 La Gran D FM/1600 AM.
