REAL SALT LAKE TO HEAD TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOR SECOND PRESEASON CAMP – MEDIA AVAILABILITY AT SLC AIRPORT ON THURSDAY MORNING

After opening its 2013 preseason with a week-long camp in Casa Grande, Ariz. from Jan. 21-28, Real Salt Lake will head to Irvine, Calif. for the second leg of its preseason on Thursday, training at the University of California-Irvine from Jan. 31-Feb. 8.


RSL will hold media availability at Salt Lake City International Airport on Thursday, with all traveling players and coaches available for interviews at the Delta Ticket Counter in Terminal 2 from 9:45-10:15 a.m. MT.

Real Salt Lake will train a total of eight times in Irvine, playing friendlies against the University of California-Irvine Anteaters on Feb. 4 and against the defending MLS Cup Champion L.A. Galaxy at the Home Depot Center on Feb. 8.  


The Claret-and-Cobalt will return to Salt Lake City on Feb. 8, taking a couple of days off before departing to Tucson for the team’s final leg of preseason at the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup from Feb. 11-24. RSL will take on fellow MLS sides Seattle Sounders FC, New York Red Bulls and New England Revolution in the four-game tournament.

REAL SALT LAKE INDIVIDUAL GAME TICKETS TO GO ON SALE ON FRIDAY, FEB. 1

Real Salt Lake individual game tickets for the 2013 MLS regular season will go on sale starting at 10 a.m. MT on Friday, Feb. 1 at the Rio Tinto Stadium box office, online at www.RealSaltLake.com/tickets, over the phone at 801-727-2700 and at all Smith’s Tix locations.  


The Claret-and-Cobalt will host 17 MLS regular season games in 2013, taking on Western Conference powers L.A., Seattle and San Jose twice each at Rio Tinto Stadium.


REAL SALT LAKE ACQUIRES FW JOAO PLATA IN TRADE WITH TORONTO

Real Salt Lake acquired FW Joao Plata on Wednesday, sending a second round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft to Toronto in exchange for the Ecuadorian attacker.


The 20-year-old Plata scored 10 goals and added nine assists in 52 matches across all competitions with Toronto. He also was awarded the 2011 George Gross Memorial Trophy after being named the 2011 Nutrilite Canadian Championship MVP.


Capped once by Ecuador, Plata spent the second half of 2012 on loan to Ecuadorian side LDU Quito.


RSL’S KYLE BECKERMAN AND TONY BELTRAN START IN USMNT’S 0-0 DRAW V. CANADA

Real Salt Lake MF Kyle Beckerman and DF Tony Beltran both started for the USMNT in its 0-0 draw against Canada in Houston on Tuesday night, with Beckerman captaining the side and playing 74 minutes and Beltran playing the first half.


Tuesday’s game marked the first time that Beckerman captained the U.S. side and the first time that Beltran appeared in a senior national team game. Both players are eligible for selection to the U.S. roster for its Feb. 6 Hexagonal opener at Honduras. Both players are expected to join Real Salt Lake for the Claret-and-Cobalt’s third and final leg of preseason at the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup from Feb. 11-24. 


RSL FW ALVARO SABORIO CAPTAINS COSTA RICATO COPA CENTROAMERICANA CROWN

Real Salt Lake FW Alvaro Saborio captained Costa Rica to the Copa Centroamericana championship, leading Los Ticos past Honduras 1-0 in the tournament final at Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica on Sunday night.


Saborio and Costa Rica will now focus its attention on its Feb. 6 CONCACAF Hexagonal opener at Panama. RSL’s leading scorer in 2012, Saborio will join the Claret-and-Cobalt after that Feb. 6 match, meeting the team for its third and final leg of preseason at the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup from Feb. 11-24.
