International Recap: Mixed bag for RSL

Fifa International Players

All four of RSL’s full internationals were in action with their national teams on Tuesday. Here’s how they fared:

Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando – U.S. 3-Guatemala 1

Both Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando dressed but did not play for the U.S. in its 3-1 win over Guatemala in Kansas City on Tuesday night. The win sealed the Americans’ place in CONCACAF’s final round of World Cup Qualifying – expect both Captain Kyle and Rimando to continue contributing to Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad in the last stage of play prior to Brazil 2014.

Alvaro Saborio – Costa Rica 7-Guyana 0

RSL’s leading scorer, Alvaro Saborio starred for Costa Rica on Tuesday night, scoring two goals and notching two assists in 90 minutes of action in Los Ticos’ 7-0 win over Guyana. Saborio nearly had a hat trick in Costa Rica’s Hexagonal-sealing victory, hitting the post and seeing a penalty kick stopped by a fantastic save from the Guyana ‘keeper.

It’ll be very interesting to see Sabo take on Beckerman and Rimando when the U.S. faces Costa Rica in the Hexagonal in 2013.

Will Johnson – Canada 1-Honduras 8

Unfortunately, things didn’t go quite as planned for Will Johnson and Canada on Tuesday afternoon. The Canucks – who needed a draw to advance to their first Hexagonal since 1998 – had a tough loss at Honduras, falling to Los Catrachos 8-1 in San Pedro Sula.

Johnson played all 90 minutes in the match. Trust that he’ll be back with a vengeance for RSL – and Canada – in the near future.
