SANDY, Utah (Friday, Aug. 31, 2012) – Real Salt Lake returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 1, when it will host Eastern Conference foe D.C. United at Rio Tinto Stadium at 7 p.m. MT. The match will be broadcast live on CW30/ESPN700, as well as on Juan 1600 AM/La Gran D 102.3 FM.

The Claret-and-Cobalt will be looking to extend its shutout streak to three games across all competitions on Saturday, having kept clean sheets in last Tuesday’s 2-0 CONCACAF Champions League win over Panamanian club Tauro FC and in last Friday’s 0-0 draw at Philadelphia. Shutting out D.C. will be a tough task for RSL’s back four – United’s high-flying attack is fourth in the league with 42 goals in 2012.

Saturday’s game also presents RSL with an opportunity to end its four-game league winless streak. The Utah side’s last MLS win came over a month ago on July 27, when the team beat Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium. RSL is 0-3-1 in league play since that win, losing at Colorado, at Vancouver, against Dallas and tying Philadelphia. The team’s last win across all competitions was the Aug. 21 CCL victory over Tauro FC.

This weekend’s matchup is the first –and only – time RSL will meet D.C. in the 2012 regular season. United has had a relatively solid year, compiling a 12-9-5 record through 26 games to put the team in fourth-place in the Eastern Conference.

Saturday’s game will be D.C.’s fifth in the last 14 days. United has been mediocre during its brutal stretch, going 1-1-2 in the first four games of its busy run. D.C. last played on Wednesday night, giving up an 88th minute equalizer to tie the New York Red Bulls 2-2 in the nation’s capital.

Real Salt Lake will hit the road just a few days after Saturday’s match, traveling to Texas to take on the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 6.

RSL History v. D.C. United

Saturday’s game will be the 15th all-time meeting between RSL and D.C. The series is dead even, with both sides compiling a 5-5-4 record against the other.

RSL struggled against D.C. in 2011, tying them 1-1 at home on June 18 after then-D.C. forward Charlie Davies converted an incredibly controversial penalty kick to equalize and allowing a first half hat trick to forward Dwayne De Rosario to fall 4-1 at RFK Stadium on Sept. 24.
