RSL History v. ‘Quakes

Real Salt Lake has had San Jose’s number since the ‘Quakes returned to the league in 2008, its 5-3-5 series advantage punctuated by a 3-1-0 all-time mark at Buck Shaw Stadium (3-2-1 on the road overall vs. SJ). RSL has started each of the last two seasons with wins on the campus of Santa Clara University, the Utah side using a Kyle Beckerman goal and a heroic effort by goalkeeper Nick Rimando in monsoon-like conditions to post a 1-0 triumph during its most recent visit last March 19. RSL had an easier time of things in last year’s home leg on July 23, riding an Álvaro Saborío brace to a 4-0 win, with all four tallies in the annual Pioneer Day celebration game coming past the halftime break.
