RSL History v. Sporting KC

Real Salt Lake can even up the all-time series against its Kansas counterparts with three points tomorrow, the Utah side going 5-6-3 in 14 previous regular season meetings. Meanwhile, the RSL ledger at Sporting KC is not nearly as impressive, the Claret-and-Cobalt going a combined 1-4-2 at Arrowhead Stadium (0-2-1 from 2005-07), CommunityAmerica Ballpark (1-1-1 from 2008-10) and its new home of LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, where RSL fell 0-2 in its first voyage to the new soccer-specific venue last August 3. That contest was a tale of two halves, as Sporting KC out-shot RSL 12-3 in the opening stanza en route to taking a 2-0 lead into the locker room (Espinoza 29, Bunbury 34), a deficit RSL couldn’t put a dent into despite a man advantage in the final half hour (Espinoza red card in 57th minute) and a 16-4 shot advantage after halftime. Real Salt Lake got its revenge a month-and-a-half later on Sept. 17 in Sandy, when Nat Borchers’ 54th minute finish stood tall in a 1-0 victory. With the new unbalanced schedule for 2012, Saturday’s contest will mark the lone meeting between the two conference leaders this season.
