NEW YORK – The Stage 2 draft of the 2011 Re-Entry Draft is set to take place on Monday at 2 pm ET. You can follow along live at MLSsoccer.com and on Twitter at @MLS.
Unlike Stage 1, teams have the opportunity to renegotiate the contract of any player chosen on Monday. Those who are not selected are free to negotiate with any of league’s 19 clubs.
Fifty players are available for selection, a list highlighted by FC Dallas’ Maicon Santos, D.C. United’s Clyde Simms, Columbus' Jeff Cunningham, Seattle's Nate Jaqua and LA’s Frankie Hejduk, who was selected by Kansas City in 2010 before being traded to the Galaxy.
Three players were selected in last week's Stage 1 draft. Chivas USA chose Arturo Alvarez, Columbus snapped up defender Carlos Mendes and New England picked up Danleigh Borman. Neither Alvarez and Borman are currently under contract and will have to agree to deals with their new clubs.
