Will Johnson has been excused from Canadian national team camp after suffering an ankle sprain during Canada's 7-0 win in a World Cup qualifier at St. Lucia on Friday, the Canadian Soccer Association announced on Saturday.
The Real Salt Lake midfielder has returned to Utah for further treatment, and will miss Canada's next qualifier against Puerto Rico in Toronto on Tuesday night (7 pm ET, Rogers Sportsnet One).
The 24-year-old was tackled hard early in the first half against the St. Lucians and, after briefly attempting to continue playing, he was subbed out of the match by coach Stephen Hart in the 17th minute.
A CSA spokesperson confirmed to MLSsoccer.com that no replacement will be called to fill Johnson’s roster spot. Johnson returned to Utah over the weekend and is hopeful he can make a quick recovery in order to be able to return to the field for Friday night's Rocky Mountain Cup clash at the Colorado Rapids (8:30 p.m. MT, LIVE on ESPN2/ESPN Deportes).
