SANDY, Utah (Thursday, September 1, 2011)Real Salt Lake (11-7-6, 39 pts.; 5th in West)will look to build upon last Saturday’s victory over Chivas USA when it plays host to the Philadelphia Union (8-6-10, 34 pts.; 4th in East) this Saturday, September 3 at Rio Tinto Stadium.  The match was originally to be played earlier in the 2011 MLS campaign on April 23, however, due to RSL’s schedule congestion during its historic CONCACAF Champions League run, Major League Soccer and the Union agreed to Saturday’s revamped date.

RSL “Game Note” of the Match, Part I: Critical Time for September Move

Real Salt Lake kicks off a critical month of September this Labor Day Weekend against East power Philadelphia, with RSL’s six-game MLS run in the penultimate month of the regular season that sees Jason Kreis’ team make up all games in hand over West leaders LA, Seattle & Dallas … All four teams will be even on games played entering RSL’s Oct. 1 visit to Los Angeles.

RSL “Game Note” of the Match, Part II: Depth Continually Tested

While RSL Nation was elated to see FW Paulo Junior return to action for the final 9 minutes @ TOR for first time since mid-April (a span of 17 MLS games, and 20 games in all competitions), several regular starters have missed significant time due to long-term injuries … The good news is that talisman MF Javier Morales – the man who has made the RSL attack click since 2008 – returned to training this week with a “non-contact” decree by Jason Kreis and the doctors … Morales has missed 23 games and counting, as he targets an Oct. 1 return from the broken ankle suffered back on May 7.

RSL History v. Philadelphia

Real Salt Lake has never lost to 2010 expansion side Philadelphia in three contests, including a pair of 1-1 draws in Pennsylvania occurring between the sides since RSL defeated the Union 3-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium last May in the teams’ inaugural meeting.  DF Jamison Olave, Captain Kyle Beckerman and FW Álvaro Saborío each scored in the Union’s lone visit to Utah, while both of the away contests have seen FW Fabian Espíndola provide heroics in erasing early Union leads and allowing RSL to escape PPL Park with a point on each occasion, most recently back on June 11.
