RSL “Game Note” of the Match: Fabian a Force

FW Fabian Espíndola’s stoppage time goal on July 9 against FC Dallas pushed his team-high goal total in MLS play to six … The red-hot Argentine striker has now scored in back-to-back MLS games and found the back of the net five times in his last seven league appearances … After tacking on goals in RSL’s last two contests – a late equalizer in the 3-3 draw with New England (July 4) and the added-time insurance tally in a 2-0 win vs. FC Dallas (July 9), Espíndola has equaled his career season-high total of six goals in just 12 contests, nearly halving the 22 games it took to accomplish the same total last season … On June 18 v. D.C. United, Espindola tallied the 20th goal of his RSL career, vaulting him into sole possession of 2nd place in the RSL scoring annals with Jeff Cunningham, now 9 behind leader Robbie Findley (29) …

RSL History v. San Jose

RSL will face an Earthquakes side needing points to make up ground in the Western Conference and looking to avenge its season-opening 1-0 loss to the Utah side at Buck Shaw Stadium back on March 19. While it was RSL captain Kyle Beckerman slotting home the game’s lone goal in the 63rd minute, GK Nick Rimando was the Man of the Match, making eight stops – including several dramatic saves late in the contest – to preserve RSL’s second straight win in Santa Clara. RSL holds a slim 4-3-5 advantage in the all-time regular season series over San Jose, however, the ledger in Utah is aneven 1-1-4 for both sides, including draws in the Earthquakes’ last two prior visits to Rio Tinto Stadium.
