Past is Past as RSL Looking Ahead, Not Behind

For the second time in just four days, Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas are set to battle it out in what is quickly becoming a rivalry of worthy Western Conference adversaries.  While Real Salt Lake took the full three points at Rio Tinto Stadium in Saturday’s 2-0 win in MLS play, only another win will do in Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal match, labeled by RSL players and coach Jason Kreis “extremely important” because of the U.S. Open Cup winner’s automatic qualification into the 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League competition.

It will be a challenge for Real Salt Lake to stay focused on the present task and not think too much about future implications – or past results, for that matter, as the Claret-and-Cobalt have gone winless in all 10 previous trips to the Metroplex.  While RSL’s 0-9-1 all-time road record in Dallas appears daunting, the bright side for the Utah side comes from the fact that the lone point gained at Pizza Hut Park came in its last visit earlier this season, a rain-soaked scoreless draw back on May 22.
