The RSL-Utah U-17 team will continue its practice of scheduling as many training sessions as possible following the RSL first team, allowing the youngsters as much interaction as possible around the club’s professional outfit in order to learn how to play “the RSL way.” The RSL-Utah team will again combine with players from the RSL-Arizona and RSL-Florida Youth Development Programs to field a side under the Real Salt Lake banner for the fifth annual MLS/SUM U-17 Cup this summer.

RSL-Arizona Academy Sides Qualify for U.S. Development Academy Postseason

Real Salt Lake would like to congratulate the RSL-Arizona Academy Under-16 and Under-18 Teams, both of which have qualified for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s 2011 playoffs in their first season in the nationwide league. The U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs will begin at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, from June 24-28 and feature the top 32 teams at each age level broken into eight groups. Those eight group winners will then graduate to “Finals Week” of the Development Academy Playoffs, to be held in Milwaukee, Wis., from July 9-16. The Development Academy playoff system was created to add to the number of meaningful games for Academy athletes, further enhancing the player development process.

The RSL Arizona U-16 Team not only qualified for the postseason but captured the SoCal Division regular season title courtesy of its 11-6-1 division record and 34 points. Thanks to its first-place finish, the RSL-Arizona U-16s claimed one of two automatic qualifier spots in the U.S. Development Academy’s U-15/16 playoffs.

The RSL-Arizona Academy U-18 Team also qualified for the Academy’s U-17/18 postseason after ending its regular season with a 1-0 win on Sunday against the Irvine Strikers. Now sitting in a second place tie with Pateadores on 30 points, the RSL-Arizona U-18s (9-6-3 in SoCal Division play) now must wait until next Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash between Pateadores and Arsenal FC (33 points) to see whether it will qualify through one of the SoCal Division’s two automatic spots or via one of the Wild Card slots, with an Arsenal win giving RSL-Arizona the second automatic qualifying position.
