Saturday’s RSL/American Express “Heroes Among Us” Award Honors the Memory of Anthony Greer

Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to recognize friend and fisherman Anthony Greer as Saturday’s “Heroes Among Us” honoree.  The 24-year-old Greer’s passion in life was fishing, and through this medium he was able to serve others and touch the lives of many. Once while fishing, Anthony saved the life of a friend who slipped underwater while wearing waders, while on another occasion he came to the rescue of older fisherman whose legs gave out due to diabetes. His eagerness to help others was demonstrated daily, whether it was by giving his catch of the day to someone in need of food or taking the time to help less skilled fisherman by offering advice or donating a fly he had tied himself.

Sadly, an accident on March 19th claimed the life of Anthony, of whom one man said, “He is, without question, the kindest gentleman I have had the pleasure of ever knowing.  I couldn’t believe that anyone could be so friendly, not these days.”  Anthony is sorely missed by his fellow fisherman, friends, and family, who will accept the award on behalf of Greer during Saturday’s match against Seattle. For his outgoing thoughtfulness and his willingness to help anyone and everyone, RSL and American Express proudly dedicate the “Heroes Among Us” award to the memory of Anthony Greer.
