Eagle Scout Kyle Jones is Recognized as Saturday’s RSL/American Express “Hero Among Us”

Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to recognize Pleasant Grove resident Kyle Jones as this Saturday’s recipient of the “Heroes Among Us” honor. Jones was only 13 years old when he found his mother unconscious in the backyard, and would quickly call 9-1-1 before telling his sister to wait in the front of the house to direct paramedics to the backyard when they arrived. Kyle, who learned life-saving techniques as a member of the Boy Scouts, then began to administer CPR on his mother until paramedics arrived on the scene six minutes later.

Despite Kyle’s and the first responders’ best efforts, sadly, Kyle’s mother passed away, but the 9-1-1 dispatch team, paramedics, and detectives all noted Kyle’s composure and bravery in the midst of the harrowing incident. Harkening back to previous lessons learned as a scout, Jones said, "Even though I wasn't able to save my mom's life, I felt like I had done all that I could. The scouting motto is 'Be prepared,' and I felt like I was prepared."

For his preparedness, courage, and collectedness in the most trying of circumstances, RSL and American Express proudly recognize Kyle Jones as a “Hero Among Us.”
