HOST UHSAA BOYS SOCCER 2A & 3A CHAMPIONSHIPS SATURDAY
High School Finales to Kick off Busy Saturday of Soccer
in Sandy before Real Salt Lake Plays Host to Houston
SANDY, Utah (Wednesday, May 11, 2011) – Rio Tinto Stadium will once again serve as Utah’s undisputed home of soccer this Saturday, May 14, when the venue will host a pair of Utah High School Athletic Association (UHSAA) 2011 Boys Soccer State Championships before Real Salt Lake’s 7:00 p.m. MT kickoff against the Houston Dynamo.
The full day of soccer will begin at 11:00 a.m., when the Boys Class 2A title will be contested on the Rio Tinto Stadium field. After the 2011 Boys 2A Champion has been crowned, the 3A finalists will get a chance to play for a championship at 1:30 p.m. MT. The building will then be cleared following the second title match-up just in time for the professionals to show how it’s done when Real Salt Lake will look to further its MLS-record home undefeated streak against the Dynamo, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
Tickets for Saturday’s championship matches are now available online at RioTintoStadium.com and can also be purchased on the day of the event at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Officebeginning at 9:00 a.m. Student and senior tickets will be available for $4 and adult tickets for $6. Fans should note that tickets will be valid for both championship contests and paid parking will be available on-site at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday for $5 in the West and South lots.
Both the 2A and 3A tournaments have been whittled down to the final four teams, with the semifinal rounds set to take place on the eve of the championships this Friday, May 13, at Jordan High School in Sandy. Semifinal match-ups for Friday’s contests are listed below.
Rio Tinto Stadium will also play host to the Boys 4A & 5A Championships later this month on Thursday, May 26. Those tournaments will start next week on Tuesday, May 17 (5A) and Wednesday, May 18 (4A) with Round of 16 matches on campus sites.
