RSL, Union reschedule to help Salt Lake CCL bid

With Real Salt Lake’s huge two-leg final series against Monterrey for the CONCACAF Champions League title coming up, the Rio Tinto boys got some crucial help from fellow MLS side Philadelphia Union.

On Thursday, the Union and RSL agreed to reschedule their Saturday, April 23, matchup at Salt Lake. Instead, the game will now be played on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 9 pm ET.

The change will allow Real Salt Lake to get some vital rest between the first leg of the CCL finals at Monterrey, Mexico, on April 20, and the return leg on April 27.

RSL will seek to become the first MLS side to win the regional championship since 2000, when the LA Galaxy took home the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. Should Salt Lake prove successful against current Mexican champions Monterrey, they would become the first MLS team to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, to be held in Japan from Dec. 8-18.
