SANDY, Utah (Thursday, March 3, 2011) – With one step down in its quest towards a CONCACAF Champions League title, Real Salt Lake will begin preparations for the tournament’s Semifinal Round with practice sessions this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at its XanGo Field practice ground in Lehi. All sessions will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes, with media availability for players and coaches to follow.
Following the weekend of training, the Claret-and-Cobalt will manage to sneak one more visit to the Grand Canyon State into its preseason plans, as Real Salt Lake and Sporting Kansas City have agreed to face in off a pair of exhibitions early next week in Phoenix. After arriving on Monday, Real Salt Lake will prepare to face off against the new-look Kansas City side at the Reach 11 Soccer Complex on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. MT and Wednesday, March 9 at 12:00 p.m. before returning to Utah that evening. Fans will be able to follow updates from both contests live via Real Salt Lake’s Official Twitter Feed (@RealSaltLake).
Real Salt Lake knows when it will play in the CCL Semifinal Round, but who it will play will not be decided until this evening, when CD Saprissa of Costa Rica and Honduran side CD Olimpia will square off in the second leg of their Quarterfinal Round series. Kickoff for the contest in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, is slated for 6:00 p.m. MT and can be seen live on Galavision (Comcast Ch. 99). Saprissa – the former side of RSL striker Álvaro Saborío – currently leads the aggregate series 1-0 after last week’s first leg in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Real Salt Lake will host the victor of the Central American series in the first leg of the CCL Semifinal Round on Tuesday, March 15 at Rio Tinto Stadium, with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. MT. Tickets for that contest are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.com, over the phone at 801-727-2700, or in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office, Monday-Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. MT. A three-week hiatus will take place in between the first and second legs, with the series decider set for Tuesday, April 5 (8:00 p.m. MT kickoff, LIVE on FOX Soccer).
