Life on the road wasn’t too bad to the Seattle Sounders FC Academy over the weekend.
A busy two-day trip to California saw the team play four games, posting a 2-1-1 record – a decent haul, but not quite up to the high standard the academy has set for itself in its first year of Development Academy play.
The Irvine Strikers U-18s were able to shackle Seattle’s outstanding Sean Okoli on Saturday, shutting out the Sounders and squeezing out a 1-0 win. Seattle’s U-16s proved to be too strong for the Strikers in the second game of the day, winning 3-1.
On Sunday, the U-18s bounced back against Pateadores, snatching two late goals to come from behind and win 2-1. In the U-16 match, Pateadores and Sounders FC drew 2-2. The weekend’s action marked the final round of games for Seattle until May.
Also in action over the weekend were Real Salt Lake and Chivas USA. RSL’s U-18s defeated Real So Cal 2-0, and the U-16s tied 1-1. Meanwhile, Chivas split with Nomads SC, the U-18s losing 2-1 and the U-16s coming away 1-0 winners.
Elsewhere, a southern road swing spelled doom for a pair of Virginia squads. Both McLean Youth Soccer and the Richmond Strikers went winless in four matches each. Richmond’s U-16s drew CASL Chelsea FC on Saturday, while the U-18s were pummeled 6-0.
Sunday saw the Strikers drop a pair of games to the North Carolina Fusion, 2-0 for the U-16s and 3-1 for the U-18s.
McLean, meanwhile, lost all four of their weekend matches. They lost 2-0 on the U-18 level to the Fusion, and 3-0 at the U-16s on Saturday, while their U-18s went down 3-1 to CASL Chelsea and U-16s lost 3-0 Sunday.
