Report: RSL assistant Fraser to be new Chivas USA coach

There are reports that RSL assistant Robin Fraser will be named Chivas USA's head coach on Monday.

It looks like Real Salt Lake assistant coach Robin Fraser, who has been a candidate for several head-coaching positions in recent years, could be on the verge of finally landing one of those jobs. According to ESPN Deportes, Fraser is set to be named head coach of Chivas USA on Monday.

The Goats have been without a coach since Martín Vasquez was let go in November. Vásquez, who was coach for only one season, saw the side finish in last place in the Western Conference, out of the playoffs for the first time since 2005.

Vasquez’s departure was one of many in the club, as the ownership group cleaned house, including parting ways with president Shawn Hunter and VP of soccer operations Stephen Hamilton.

Fraser, who played 10 seasons in MLS with the LA Galaxy, Colorado Rapids, and Columbus Crew, has been an assistant with RSL since 2007, playing played an integral role in helping head coach Jason Kreis build the club into one of MLS’ powerhouses. He was with them when they won the 2009 MLS Cup.

Once named, Fraser would become the 6th head coach in Chivas USA’s seven years of existence.
