ESPN 700 Sports Radio Update: Nov. 15-21

HOME OF THE UTES CELEBRATING "RED BLOOD / BLUE BLOOD” RIVALRY WITH KUED

SALT LAKE CITY (Monday, November 15, 2010) – ESPN 700 Sports Radio and Utah’s PBS affiliate KUED are giving listeners and viewers a chance to kick off Rivalry Week early, with chances to win passes to next Monday’s fundraiser event in advance of the final Utah-BYU Mountain West Conference game. ESPN 700 Sports Radio – as it does week-in, week-out – remains the Wasatch Front’s home most insightful local and national sports talk.


"Revelry for the Rivalry" is a fundraising event taking place next Monday, Nov. 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tower at Rice-Eccles Stadium, sacred ground for the rivalry. The event includes a sneak peak of “Red Blood, Blue Blood,” a new KUED film exploring the tradition of the fabled rivalry. Legendary coaches Ron McBride and LaVell Edwards, as well as former players will be on hand that evening. For those who do not win a coveted pass to the exclusive event this week, the tax-deductible ticket price of $100 includes admission to the kick-off event, an annual membership with KUED, a DVD copy of “Red Blood, Blue Blood,” and a sports-themed buffet. Tickets are limited and can be purchased at kued.org.
Today’s guests on a “Studs & Duds Monday” with Bill Riley & Spencer Checketts from 2:00-6:00 p.m. include Brian Johnson, former Utes quarterback and current offensive assistant coach; Blaine Fowler, a former BYU football player and current analyst for The Mtn.; and Oklahoma City Thunder play-by-play announcer Matt Pinto, who will preview tonight’s matchup at Energy Solutions Arena between the red-hot Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sound bites from both BYU and Utah Football press conferences will also air, as well as interviews from today’s Jazz shootaround.
Last week’s guests included such Notre Dame luminaries as Don Criqui (play-by-play for the Fighting Irish) and Allen Pinkett (ND analyst), in addition to Brian Windhorst (ESPN NBA writer covering the Miami Heat) and local personalities Morgan Scalley, Kalani Sitake, Gordon Chiesa and Josh Watkins (Runnin’ Utes guard).

ESPN 700 Sports Radio is the where the local head coaches and senior decision-makers give their exclusive takes, including Utah Football’s Kyle Whittingham (Thursday), who joins Bill Riley for weekly coach’s shows. RSL General Manager Garth Lagerwey’s weekly appearance each Wednesday will continue through the 2009 Champions’ offseason, while Utah Basketball’s Jim Boylen can also be heard each week. Tuesday night, the Utes’ Women’s Basketball game at Weber State tips off at 7:00 p.m. MT on ESPN 700 Sports Radio, while on Wednesday, the Runnin’ Utes men’s squad will host Montana at the Huntsman Center in a game that can also be heard at 7:00 p.m. MT LIVE on ESPN 700.


Every day at 5:10 p.m. MT, Bill & Spence host the “Big Interview of the Day” with a prominent guest for an extended segment. Each Thursday, Real Salt Lake Founder and former Utah Jazz President Dave Checketts is featured, with a variety of both local and national newsmakers featured throughout the week.
Kicking off each day with ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike in the Morning” from 4:00-8:00 a.m. MT, ESPN 700’s day continues with “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” from 8:00-11:00 a.m. before “The Dan Patrick Show” runs from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Local “ESPN 700 SportsCenter” breaks are featured throughout the national programming, prior to “Bill & Spence” delving deep into the issues of the day from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
