The Randers FC forward beat the offside trap to nutmeg the keeper 23 minutes in, breaking the ice with his second goal in four international matches. The result allowed Russia to climb joint top with a 3-2 win at Ireland.
Elsewhere, unbeaten Montenegro are surprise leaders of Group G after a 1-0 defeat of Switzerland that saw D.C. United midfielder Branko Boskovic work the first half.
Over in Group A, Miroslav Klose bagged a brace as Germany stayed perfect through three with a 3-0 victory over guests Turkey. Austria have two wins from two after topping Azerbaijan 3-0 and Belgium finally got off the blocks with a 2-0 win at Kazakhstan.
Group C action saw first-place Italy held to a scoreless draw at Northern Ireland, while Estonia stunned home side Serbia with three goals after the hour for a 3-1 triumph.
In Group D, co-leaders Albania and Belarus battled respectively to a 1-1 home draw with Bosnia and a scoreless stalemate at Luxembourg.
A Klaas-Jan Huntelaar strike near the break was enough for the Netherlands to take sole possession of the Group E summit with a 1-0 win at Moldova. Meanwhile, Mainz 05 striker Adam Szalai performed a hat trick as Hungary thumped San Marino 8-0.
Georgia share the top spot in Group F after a last-gasp 1-0 victory over visiting Malta. They are level with Greece, who posted an identical home win against Latvia.
Group H leaders Norway remained flawless with a 2-1 win at Cyprus, while Portugal moved into second place by riding a Nani double past Denmark 3-1.
Finally, Spain lead Group I with a game in hand after besting Lithuania 3-1, while the Czech Republic broke their duck with a 1-0 defeat of Scotland.
