SANDY, Utah (Thursday, October 7, 2010) – After collecting a win at New England last weekend, it will be back to the Atlantic Coast once again for Real Salt Lake (14-4-9, 51 pts.) this Saturday, October 9, this time for a showdown with the Eastern Conference-leading New York Red Bulls (14-8-5, 47 pts). Kickoff for RSL’s first-ever visit to Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., is set for 2:00 p.m. MT, with the pivotal contest in the chase for the MLS Supporters Shield airing live on TeleFutura and over the radio on “Classic Country”99.1-FM (English), ESPN Deportes 1600 (Spanish), and Homero 106.1-FM (Spanish). Fans will also be able to follow live updates from Red Bull Arena via RSL’s Official Twitter Feed, found at www.twitter.com/RealSaltLake.

Real Salt Lake will carry plenty of momentum into the weekend, its current 11-match undefeated run in MLS play (5-0-6) breaking the 10-game club record it set earlier this season. Those streaks combine to form a lengthy run that has seen the Utah side drop just one of its last 22 League matches dating back to April.

The two sides’ first meeting of the season came back on Sept. 4 at Rio Tinto Stadium, when FW Fabian Espíndola’s tally just four minutes in stood tall for a 1-0 victory that then equaled the longest-ever MLS home undefeated streak at 22 games – a run that RSL has since lengthened to 24 matches. Real Salt Lake is now 2-4-6 in regular season and playoff contests against New York, which included a 0-3-2 mark at the Red Bulls’ former home of Giants Stadium in East Rutherford.

MLS Game Guide #219: New York Red Bulls v. Real Salt Lake – Saturday, October 9, 2010
2010 MLS Cup Supporters Shield/Playoff Update
After briefly standing alone atop Major League Soccer’s overall table for the first time in club history last weekend courtesy of its win at New England, Real Salt Lake is now once again two points behind the Los Angeles Galaxy (53 points) in the chase for the MLS Supporters Shield (regular season) crown after L.A. dispatched Super Clasico rival Chivas USA on Sunday evening. While the defending MLS Cup champs have their sights set on the Galaxy and the League’s top overall spot, they must also keep an eye over their shoulder, as FC Dallas (49), New York (47), and the Columbus Crew (46) all harbor hopes of reaching the League’s apex, setting up a virtual Supporters Shield “elimination game” between RSL and the Red Bulls on Saturday. Real Salt Lake will know whether a three-point result on the weekend will get it to the top of the table, as the Galaxy square off against Philadelphia Union this evening at PPL Park in Chester, PA (6:00 MT kickoff, live on ESPN2).
