Laura Ottati Honored as Saturday's RSL/American Express "Heroes Among Us" Recipient
Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to recognize Laura Ottati from Kearns as Saturday’s recipient of the American Express“Heroes Among Us” award.  A kindergarten teacher at Summit Christian Academy who is known for going the extra mile, Ottati spent her summer transforming her classroom into a jungle with vines and trees to engage her students in learning in addition to preparing musicals and other events for students and their families and serving as a counselor for a local children’s activities club.
To help her students get the right start to their day, Ottati often spends time before classes preparing breakfast for those who arrive to school without eating the most important meal of the day. Her work is not done after the final bell either, as Laura has visited many of her students that speak Spanish as their first language at home to assist them in practicing their English – and often helps their parents to brush up on the language as well. Ms. Ottati’s methods and care seem to be gaining results, as by the time her students complete kindergarten most are above grade level in all subjects.
Ms. Ottati is more than a teacher, she is mentor and a leader.  For making a profound difference in the lives of the children she teaches, Real Salt Lake and American Express proudly congratulate Laura Ottati for being a true “Hero Among Us.”
