Green Street Social Club to Host Official RSL Watch Party for Wednesday’s Contest against Philly

SANDY, Utah (Monday, August 9, 2010) – The Eastern Conference swing for Real Salt Lake(10-4-5, 35 pts.) will continue this week with a pair of contests, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 11 with the defending MLS Cup champion’s first-ever visit to PPL Park to take on Philadelphia Union (4-10-3, 15 pts.). Kickoff from suburban Chester, Penn. is set for 5:30 p.m. MT for a contest that will be televised live on KUSG 2.2(Comcast 111), with coverage concluding with the 30-minute America First Credit Union Post-match Report. Fans can also follow the action live via RSL’s official radio partners – ESPN 700 Sports(English), ESPN Deportes 1600-AM and Homero 106.1-FM (Spanish) – and the club’s official Twitter feed, found at www.twitter.com/RealSaltLake.

This week’s double-dip continues on Saturday, Aug. 14, when Real Salt Lake will play host to the East-leading Columbus Crew (11-4-4, 37 pts.) in a contest that could prove pivotal in the race for the MLS Supporters Shield, awarded to the League’s regular season champion. Kickoff for Real Salt Lake’s return to Rio Tinto Stadium, presented by Hoopes Vision, is slated for 7:00 p.m. MT, and fans that can’t make it to Sandy can follow the action live on KUSG 2.2 / Comcast 111 (followed by the America First Credit Union Post-match Report), ESPN 700, ESPN Deportes 1600-AM, and Homero 106.1-FM.

Tickets for Saturday’s contest remain available and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.com and www.RioTintoStadium.com, over the phone at 801-727-2700, and in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and on gameday beginning at 10:00 a.m. MT.

A quirk in the schedule finds Real Salt Lake in the midst of a stretch of six straight League contests against Eastern Conference foes, which began with a 3-0 win over D.C. United on July 31 continued with last Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Kansas City. After this week’s doubleheader against Philadelphia and Columbus, the run continues in coming weeks with match-ups at Toronto FC (Aug. 28) and at Rio Tinto Stadium against the New York Red Bulls (Sept. 4). Sandwiched in between those contests – part of a 14-game, 56-daystretch that marks the busiest run of games in RSL history – will be a pair of CONCACAF Champions League matches, first at home against Arabe Unido (Panama) on Aug. 18 and then at Cruz Azul in Mexico City on Aug. 25.

RSL Series History v. Union

Real Salt Lake’s first-ever meeting with Philadelphia back on May 8 was a good one for the home side, as MF Kyle Beckerman, DF Jamison Olave, and FW Álvaro Saborío all tallied their second goals of the season in a 3-0 trouncing of the Union at Rio Tinto Stadium. Real Salt Lake has two ties to the Union roster, most notably GK Chris Seitz, who began his MLS career with three seasons as the primary back-up to Nick Rimando from 2007-09. In addition, breakout rookie FW Danny Mwanga was a member of the RSL Under-18 squad that represented the shield well last spring during the prestigious Mundial de Clubes Sub-18 Comunidad de Madrid tournament in Spain.

RSL Series History v. Crew

The history between RSL and Columbus is deep and growing deeper thanks in part to a contentious 0-1 loss for the Utah side in their first meeting of the season in central Ohio back on April 24 and RSL’s dethroning of the Crew during last year’s Eastern Conference Semifinal Series en route to a MLS Cup title of its own. Real Salt Lake’s regular season record against Columbus now stands at 3-7-1, while its 2-2-1 mark in the Beehive State includes a 4-1 victory last April 2 in the 2009 Rio Tinto Stadium opener. When factoring in last year’s pair of playoff victories – an opening 1-0 win in Sandy and a 3-2 victory in the second leg in Columbus – and a defeat in 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying play, the Claret-and-Cobalt’s overall mark in League and Cup competition against the Crew stands at 5-8-1.
