Movsisyan, Toja chip in for Europa qualifying

Yura Movsisyan scored three goals for Randers over two legs, but it wasn't enough.

Yura Movsisyan did his part on Thursday, but the former Real Salt Lake striker’s fifth goal in Europa League qualifying wasn’t enough to put his Randers side into European competition.

Rodrigo Tosi scored in the 68th minute to give Lausanne-Sport 1-1 draw and a 4-3 aggregate win over Randers. Movsisyan also scored a brace in the first leg, but it wasn’t enough for his Danish club.

Meanwhile, at Anfield, Joe Cole made his Liverpool debut while Steven Gerrard and David Ngog scored to give the Reds a 2-0 win over Rabotnicki for a 4-0 win on aggregate. The English club may be changing ownership as Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett may be selling soon.

In Greek, the former club of US internationals Eddie Johnson and Freddy Adu, Aris FC, also advanced on aggregate with a 2-2 draw with Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok. Former FC Dallas midfielder Juan Toja – acquired from Steaua Bucuresti – went the full 90 for Aris.

In other action on Thursday, Juventus, Stuttgart, Sporting Lisbon, Galatasaray and AZ Alkmaar were among the clubs booking berths in the playoff rounds to reach the Europa League group stage.
