The Real Salt Lake Under-17 Team started out on the right foot this
evening in the 2010 SUM U-17 Cup in Houston, coming back to register a
2-1 win over their counterparts from the New York Red Bulls at
Centennial Park.
In the first of two 30-minute halves, it was the Red Bulls jumping in
front in the 15th minute, but RSL’s Ricardo Velasco got the goal back
right before the stroke of halftime in the 30th, evening things at 1-1.
Five minutes after the break Real Salt Lake took the lead, as Maikon
Orellana headed home to put the Claret-and-Cobalt up 2-1, which is how
the opener for both sides in Group D play would stay through the final
whistle.
With Kansas City defeating the LA Galaxy in the day’s first game, RSL
sits atop the Group D table alongside the Wizards (full table can be
found at the SUM Cup home page) on three points heading into tomorrow’s clash with the Galaxy (5:30 p.m. MT). Click here for more info on the RSL U-17s and the 2010 SUM U-17 Cup.
