Real Salt Lake midfielder Luis Gil has departed the MLS squad once again
to join up with one of US Soccer’s Youth National Teams, this time as a
member of the U-18 side that will be in South American through next
weekend (July 31, to be exact). The 16-year-old Gil is the only
professional player on coach Mike Matkovich’s side that headed yesterday
to Argentina, where the U.S. U-18s will play games against a local
select side (July 26) and the Argentina U-18’s (July 27) before heading
west for Chile, where they will take on their Chilean counterparts in
Santiago (July 29) before heading back stateside. Click here for the press release from U.S. Soccer, which includes the full 18-man roster for the South American sojourn.
