Different Year, Same Story in Sandy as Espíndola, Olave, Saborío & Findley all Tally against Revs;
Nick Rimando Notches 100th Regular Season Win While Extending Shutout Streak to RSL Record and MLS Season-best 408 Minutes

SANDY, Utah (Friday, July 2, 2010) – What a difference a week made for Real Salt Lake (8-3-3, 27 pts.), which rebounded from a disappointing goalless draw last weekend against San Jose by putting five on the board tonight against the New England Revolution (3-9-2, 11 pts.) in a dominating 5-0 victory in front of 19,101 fans at Rio Tinto Stadium.

The result not only pushed RSL’s club-record home undefeated streak and overall unbeaten streak in MLS play to 18 games and nine games, respectively, but it also resulted in GK Nick Rimando becoming just the fifth netminder in MLS history to reach the 100-win plateau. FW Fabian Espíndola and DF Jamison Olave started the offensive onslaught in the first half, followed by a brace by FW Álvaro Saborío and a goal for FW Robbie Findley upon his return from duty with the U.S. Men’s National Team at the FIFA World Cup.

·The three-point result also bettered RSL’s club-record home unbeaten streak in MLS action to 18 games (12-0-6), which is now tied for the second-longest such run in League history:

·Real Salt Lake’s five goals are the second most in a regular season contest for the Claret-and-Cobalt, bested only by the six-spot the Utah side put up against the same Revolution side last April 25 at Rio Tinto Stadium (6-0 W).

·The five goals are also the most scored by an MLS outfit this season and pushed RSL’s already top-rated offensive output to an impressive 1.93 goals/game. Real Salt Lake has scored multiple goals in six of its eight home contests this season, helping the squad to an MLS-best home scoring output of 2.50 goals/game (LA ranks second at 2.00).

·With his 6th and 7th goals of the season, Álvaro Saborío upped his team-lead in the category and moved up the MLS Budweiser Golden Boot chart all alone into 4th place (Buddle-9; Angel & De Rosario-8). With his two helpers, Javier Morales now has a team-best 6 assists on the season, good for a 3rd place tie across the League with Brad Davis, Patrick Nyarko & Michael Stephens.

·The shutout for Nick Rimando was his fourth straight clean sheet, his sixth of the season (2nd in MLS) and the 66th of his illustrious career (4th all-time). The 11-year MLS veteran also served as captain for the Claret-and-Cobalt for tonight’s contest, taking “armband service” over from DF Nat Borchers.

·Rimando’s current 408-minute shutout streak broke his own RSL record in the category (355 minutes from June 28–July 28, 2008) and gives the reigning MLS Player of the Month the longest such streak in League play this season.

·The win put Rimando in the elite “100 Win Club” alongside Kevin Hartman (150), Zach Thornton (128), RSL alum Scott Garlick (107), and Joe Cannon (103). 34 of Rimando’s 100 wins have come since joining the Claret-and-Cobalt prior to the 2007 campaign (34-36-27 overall with RSL; 28-23-19 since 2008)
