RSL Open Cup Preview at 'Quakes

Less than three weeks after leaving the Bay Area victorious following its MLS season opener, Real Salt Lake (1-1-1 in MLS play) will again head west tomorrow, Wednesday, April 14, to face the San Jose Earthquakes (1-1-0 in MLS play), this time for a “MLS Play-in” round qualifier for the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.  Kick-off for the win-or-go-home contest at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. is set for 8:00 p.m. MT, and the match can be followed live over the radio airwaves on KALL 700 Sports and on the station’s online home, www.KALL700Sports.com. Fans can also track live updates from Buck Shaw via Real Salt Lake’s official Twitter feed, located at www.Twitter.com/RealSaltLake.

Real Salt Lake has reason to be confident heading into Wednesday night’s contest, having defeated the Earthquakes 3-0 in Santa Clara just 17 days ago in both teams’ 2010 season opener. That result pushed RSL’s all-time record against San Jose – including U.S. Open Cup play – over the .500 mark to 4-3-4, which includes a 2-1-0 record at Buck Shaw Stadium since the re-birth of the ‘Quakes in 2008. Real Salt Lake is looking to rewrite its history when it comes to U.S. Soccer’s National Championship tournament, the Claret-and-Cobalt having gone just 3-5-0 during its first five campaigns between qualifying matches and the tournament proper.
