Real Salt Lake Knows the Way to San Jose for 2010 MLS Opener vs. Earthquakes
After four months of celebrating its ultimate victory, it’s finally time for Real Salt Lake to begin the defense of its MLS Cup crown this Saturday, March 27, when the Utah side will head to the Bay Area to take on the San Jose Earthquakes as part of MLS First Kick 2010, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods. Kick-off from Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. is set for 7:00 p.m. MT, and the match will open up an MLS First Kick national doubleheader on Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Español.
As it heads into its sixth Major League Soccer campaign, Real Salt Lake is still looking for its first-ever win in a season opener, the Claret-and-Cobalt going 0-2-3 in such contests heading into Saturday, including a 0-2 defeat last March 28 at Seattle Sounders FC. RSL didn’t fare as well against the Western Conference’s bottom team last season, falling 1-2 at Buck Shaw Stadium on May 30 before coming from a man down to claim a 1-1 comeback draw at Rio Tinto Stadium on July 3. Those results dropped RSL’s career record against the ‘Quakes to 2-3-4, which includes a 1-2-1 mark in the Bay Area.

RSL’s April 10th Home Opener v. Seattle Sounders FC Less Than Three Weeks Away
Real Salt Lake’s home opener on Saturday, April 10 against Seattle Sounders FC is right around the corner, so it’s time to clear your schedule and ensure you’ll be at Rio Tinto Stadium for a special night of soccer and celebration in Sandy. To the victors go the spoils, as they say, and the last of those rewards for Real Salt Lake’s MLS Cup 2009 championship will come during a pre-game ceremony, when the club will unfurl its first banner from the Rio Tinto Stadium rafters and distribute championship rings to returning members of the squad.
After that comes the main event – the first chance to see the 2010 edition of Real Salt Lake up-close and in-person as it takes on Kasey Keller, Freddie Ljungberg, and the rest of Sounders FC in an early-season Western Conference showdown. The evening begins with the opening of the popular Carnival Real pre-game festival on the Stadium’s east lawn at 5:00 p.m., followed by the pre-game ceremonies beginning around 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7:00 p.m. To purchase tickets for the April 10 home opener against Sounders FC, visit www.RioTintoStadium.com, call 888-4-RSL-TIX (888-477-5849), or visit the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office weekdays from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. MT.
