Kick Off: Slew of player moves in MLS; Mex

MLS clubs need to get their house in order.

With the CBA now in place and the regular season kick-off just two days away, teams are facing a Wednesday 5 p.m. ET deadline to be in compliance.

The moves started late Monday with six players being waived, including last year’s starting goalkeeper in Chicago, Jon Busch, who says he was caught off guard.

In addition to releasing players, there are others being signed like Honduran native and D.C. United Academy product Andy Najar, a 17-year-old high school junior.

Even with all the player movement, MLS is the most diverse sports league in America.

Philadelphia and Seattle kick things off on Thursday night in the Union’s first ever official match at Qwest Field, where match day is the thing to do.

Philadelphia will be without Fred for the opener against Seattle and it seems Chris Seitz will be the starting goalkeeper.

Seattle hope they do not miss the goals of forward Blaise Nkufo, subject of this UEFA.com feature.

Judging by the frequency of rumors and reports, it sounds like Thierry Henry is a sure thing to join Nkufo in MLS during the summer.

Henry was responsible for American celebrity Jay-Z becoming an Arsenal fan and the latter tells Arsenal Magazine that he might look to invest in the club he supports.

In other yanks abroad news, there’s an update on Jay DeMerit’s injury and FIFA.com continues its recent string of U.S. player features with another on Maurice Edu.

Yet another Charlie Davies recovery update from France says he’s not in organized team training just yet.

Davies' fellow U.S. national team member Jonathan Spector will look to do his part to save Gianfranco Zola’s job at West Ham in a match against U.S. goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann and Wolves (4 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer Plus). It's the TV highlight of a day that also features La Liga and Copa Libertadores action.

Charlotte, N.C., welcomed the Mexican national team on Monday as it prepares for the biggest soccer match ever held in the city. Close to 65,000 are expected for the match between Mexico and Iceland on Wednesday at Bank of America Stadium.
