Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to recognize Anne Carpenter as the recipient of the “Hero Among Us” honor on March 22nd 2014. On February 26th Anne’s quick thinking and composure saved the life of a young girl at Monte Vista elementary school where Anne works. Anne was keeping an eye on a group of third graders while they ate lunch when she noticed something was terribly wrong. A young girl who had been eating lunch and laughing with her friends just seconds before was gasping for breath and holding her throat, she was choking. Anne immediately sprang to action, rushing to the young girl’s aid. Anne administered the Heimlich maneuver, saving the girl’s life. Anne does not think what she did was heroic, to her she was just doing her job, she was watching out for her kids.

Real Salt Lake And American Express are proud to recognize Sandy Lees as the recipient of the “Hero Among Us” honor on March 29th 2014. Sandy has been fundraising to provide children with muscular dystrophy the opportunity to attend a special summer camp designed with their needs in mind. Despite suffering from A.L.S., a motor neurone disease, Sandy goes above and beyond in her efforts to collect donations from many local businesses and members of our community. Every year, since 2009, she has hosted a breakfast and fundraiser to pay the way for these children to have the experience of a lifetime. Year after year she strives to raise the bar to help more children attend summer camp. By giving the gift of the outdoors Sandy makes camping dreams a reality. Her enthusiasm, positivity, dedication and desire to help others have truly made her a hero among us.
Sandy Lees, Rick Lees, Paul Berthelson, and Real Salt Lake Representative Robert Castellano.
